My inspiration, fundamentally lies with humanity. Objects of all kinds are an expression of humanity and relationship to the beloved, to ourselves, tribe, and family. The contemporary world offers us instant gratification in a relational sense and in terms of objects. Objects can then loose their meaning. Being a creator and a lover of humanity demands that the objects I create and come into contact with are instilled with life, are returned to the magic of yesteryear, when a gift was an heirloom and a vessel for our stories that we live in this strange and magical human journey that we all share. Custom jewelry and Objects have the ability to create MORE meaning in our lives, as we cherish and relive our memories with them!
Gem Folklore and History:
For anyone interested in the folklore of gemstones, the healing properties and the magic as seen through the ages, this book by Victoria Finlay is an excellent read!
Another way to understand Object-hood:
This was my bible in the early days of making, when all makers must confront: “Why make something, why use materials to fashion something?”
The Gift: Imagination and the Erotic Life of Property by Lewis Hyde
The Meaning of a True Gift
A gift does not have to be expensive! The most beautiful story, that I loved since childhood is “The Gift of the Magi.” Written by O. Henry, it is a short story about a young husband and wife and how they deal with the challenge of buying secret Christmas gifts for each other with very little money.
A Gallery After My Heart:
Primavera Gallery in NYC is an exquisite, private gallery that has inspired me and others for decades. For over forty years, the owners have sought out the finest and most interesting decorative objects, jewelry, furniture, and paintings associated with the major design movements of our century.
As both a maker and a collector, I adore many design movements and derive joy from viewing and understand them. If you are ever in NYC – say hello!
